Designated as a National Historic Site in 2009, Gastown is a historic neighbourhood running along Water Street and West Hastings Street, located close to Waterfront Station. This area is chock-full hidden alley ways, hole-in-the-wall restaurants and has a broad selection of local high-end designer boutiques and trendy cafes. High-end loft style housing is quite popular among the condos in this area. Gastown has a thriving start-up and tech scene, home to a number of film production companies, design firms, creative agencies and start-up technology offices. Tourist attractions such as the Gastown Steam Clock and Gassy Jack’s statue pulls in tourist crowds from all over the world, and its laid-back, independent vibe draws locals to its streets in all seasons.
